Baseline Road, Lafayette, Colorado.  The following Committee Members were present: Zack Cusworth, Emily Gardner, Lauren Jones, Paige Jones, Jessica Lawson, Jasjit Mangat, JD Mangat, Antonette Ortiz, Emma Piller, Abby Schmid, Balkarn Shani, Hailey Smith, Alex Solheim, Jasmine Trujillo, and Gabi Weldon.  Also present were Councilor Christine Berg and Advisory Members Karen Snortland and Elaina Verveer.

Committee Minutes
A motion was made by Jessica Lawson and seconded by Jasjit Mangat to approve the minutes of the Committee Meeting of February 1, 2012 as written.  The motion was passed unanimously.

Scheduled Items
Committee Members Jessica Lawson, Jasjit Mangat, JD Mangat, Balkarn Shani, and Gabi Weldon reflected on their recent experience shadowing State Senator Evie Hudak.  They, along with members of Centaurus High School’s PeaceJam Club, observed a Senate Session, sat in on Senate and House Education Committee Meetings, and toured the Capitol.  Members expressed interest in coordinating a similar opportunity in the future.

Co-Chair Lauren Jones reviewed potential project ideas that the Committee generated during the February 1, 2012 Committee Meeting. After considerable discussion, the Committee unanimously agreed to develop an awareness campaign and corresponding service projects to support local homeless teens.  The Committee intends to launch the campaign in April in conjunction with Global Youth Service Day.

Co-Chair Hailey Smith discussed Lafayette’s eighth annual “Seeds of Justice” March and Rally, which the Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee will continue to coordinate. Members also discussed their involvement in Lafayette’s annual Cesar Chavez birthday celebration, which the Committee has co-hosted with the Sister Carmen Community Center since 2007.  Both the birthday celebration and “Seeds of Justice” march and rally will tentatively take place on Friday, April 6. Committee Members Jessica Lawson, Jasjit Mangat, Antonette Ortiz, and Hailey Smith will serve as emcees during the rally.

Members of the Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee reconvened in the lobby of the Lafayette Recreation Center, where they created a window display, featuring a collection of awards that the Committee has received since 2007.

Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
