DAC Mission Statement
Adopted March 9, 2010
The Downtown Action Committee advises the Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority
on downtown issues, initiatives and redevelopment, and implements plans
to enhance the pedestrian-friendly gathering place in the heart of Lafayette
and supports economic revitalization of downtown.
DAC’s ultimate goal is to create a self-sufficient downtown organization.

Attendance: Ted Lupberger; Bob Rosenthal; Carolyn Cutler; Bill Hopkins; Pete d’Oronzio; John Weise; Debbie Wilmot, PIO and Communications Director for the Recreation Center; Susan Booker, Cultural Resources Coordinator; Saundra Dowling, representing Historic Preservation; and Jenn Ooton, Downtown Coordinator.
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.
APPROVAL OF JANUARY 12, 2012, MEETING MINUTES
Bob Rosenthal moved for the approval of the meeting minutes. Pete d’Oronzio seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC NOT ON THE AGENDA
No members of the public addressed DAC.
BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS REPORTS
Saundra Dowling told the group that the Historic Preservation Board is continuing to prioritize the 12 properties along Public Road that are eligible for landmarking. The group is also working on the Comprehensive Plan revision. She also confirmed that the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists will have an art exhibit at pARTiculars in conjunction with the annual Spring Garden Tour, hosted by the residents committee of the Lafayette Old Town Association.
Debbie Wilmot told the group that the Recreation Center has expanded hours and that they are getting ready to install a climbing wall in the pool area. February is Red Dress Month. Additionally, the Recreation Center will be working with Exempla on a new program in downtown, called Walk With A Doc. The 1-mile walks will start at the Recreation Center and will be preceded by a short lecture.
Susan Booker gave an update on plans for Art Night Out in 2012. She also told the group about an arts network and creative industries gathering that will take place on March 19 at the Lafayette Public Library.
BUSINESS
Downtown Vision
Jenn Ooton told the group that the city is undergoing a process to update the Comprehensive Plan and that there are sections of the plan referencing downtown that should be updated and include references to the 2011 Downtown Vision Plan. Carolyn Cutler offered to help staff review the pertinent sections.
Annual Report to the Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority (LURA)
DAC discussed the upcoming LURA meeting at which DAC would present its annual report and also the need to ask LURA for an extension to operate beyond April. Ted Lupberger made a motion to ask for an extension to operate through December 31, 2012, with the expectation that DAC would transition into a self-sufficient downtown organization prior to that date. Bill Hopkins seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Bill Hopkins made a motion to spend up to $600 to print copies of the 2011 Old Town Annual Report. Bob Rosenthal seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
