 Location:
Coal Creek Trail at the Avalon Avenue Trail Spur
 Event Type:Volunteer Event
 Details:

The public is invited to celebrate Arbor Day with the City of Lafayette by volunteering on April 21st along Coal Creek Trail near the Avalon Avenue trail spur (1630 Avalon Avenue).  The event will begin at 9:00am with a brief ceremony and tree-planting demonstration.  Volunteer check-in will be available at the Avalon Avenue entrance to the Coal Creek Trail.

Volunteers will join members of the Lafayette Open Space Advisory Committee and City staff in planting native trees and shrubs along the north side of the trail.  The plantings will add diversity to the area which is noticeably sparse at present.  Volunteers will be needed to help with the planting from 9:00 to 11:00am and should wear work gloves, a hat and sunscreen, and can bring a shovel.  Free coffee and muffins will be provided at 9:00am.  Online registration is strongly encouraged and is available at www.cityoflafayette.com/openspace.

Funding for the event is made possible by the City of Lafayette and in part by an appreciated donation from Struttin Pup, a local pet supply and grooming store.  As the local Tree Board, the Lafayette Open Space Advisory Committee is hosting the event, which is part of the Mile High Million, a regional program to plant a million new trees in the Denver region over the next 20 years.

Please ride your bicycle or walk in an effort to conserve resources.  If necessary, parking will be available along Avalon Avenue just south of Distel Drive.  Please be courteous to neighbors by parking along the southeast side of the road, opposite the homes.
