| | Event Type: | Community Event | | Details: | The Lafayette Historical Society will have its Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 10. The election of officers will be followed by a presentation by Preethi Burkholder on the Colorado Mining Camps.
The history of Colorado is filled with tales from the great mining era that occured in the Colorado Territory after the Civil War & helped to promote the area for statehood. Gold & silver mining in the mountains, & coalmining on the plains north & south of Denver are full of legendary people & places. From railroad barons to miners. From the prostitutes to the pioneer women who accompained their husbands & families west for better lives. These are the tales that Preethi will share with everyone. She is also an accomplished musician, so there will be interludes of music.
Preethi became familiar with ghost towns when she was a volunteer for the forest service. She has published several books including "Ghost Towns of the Rockies".
