    The City of Lafayette has earned the 2014 Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management by the National Recreation and Parks Association. This award positions Lafayette as the best of the best nationwide for populations less than 30,000. The "Gold Medal" is a testament to the amenities which bring Lafayette residents a higher quality of life, safer places to play, and healthy alternatives. On Saturday, October 25 Lafayette residents will receive free admission all day to the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center to celebrate this prestigious award.     Have you ever wondered why the police do things the way they do? Have you been curious about laws, policies and officer skills that have been developed to keep you safe? The Citizens' Police Academy explains and demonstrates many of the department's policies, divisions and functions. Students also get hands on experiences in many classes. The 2014 Citizens' Police Academy will be expanded from a 9-week to an 11-week mini-academy for citizens 18 and older. Applications and background checks are required. Space is limited, so apply early!
