The Illustrated Urban Garden Reception
Saturday, June 10, 2017
The Illustrated Urban Garden, brought to Lafayette in partnership with the Denver Botanic Gardens School of Botanical Art and Illustration, will run from June 2 -June 30, 2017.
The 7th annual Old Town Lafayette Garden Tour will be held on Saturday, June 10, between 9am and 2pm. The tour features five private cottage gardens, the Community Garden at Sister Carmen Community Center, and The Illustrated Urban Garden art exhibit..
The featured gardens include xeric landscapes, raised-bed vegetable gardens, outdoor rooms, live music, artist demonstrations, give-a-ways and more. The gardens in Lafayette are primarily designed, built and gratefully enjoyed by the homeowners themselves. Tour goers will find some wonderfully creative ideas to take back to their own yards. On the tour this year is a garden crafted by a master gardener, as well as one that received a grant two years ago from the Lafayette Old Town Association (LOTA) to improve their curb appeal.
Sister Carmen Community Garden is a Lafayette garden where volunteers and community members work together to raise fresh organic vegetables for the local non-profit food bank. The 2,000 square foot garden features intensive vegetable gardens using drip irrigation, raised beds, and trellises. Sister Carmen Community Garden also delights in having herbs, flowers for pollinators, a sunflower house, an iris bed, fruit trees and memorial gardens.
The Illustrated Urban Garden artist reception starts at 2pm at The Collective Community Arts Center located at 201 N. Public Road. The Illustrated Urban Garden, brought to Lafayette in partnership with the Denver Botanic Gardens School of Botanical Art and Illustration, will run from June 2 -June 30, 2017. There will be an artist demonstration at 10am at one of the gardens and at 2pm at The Collective. More information about the exhibit can be found at http://www.cityoflafayette.com/Collective
Advanced tickets for the 2017 Garden Tour are available May 1, for $8; tickets can also be purchased the day of the event for $10 at Lafayette Florist, 600 S. Public Road.
Proceeds from the tour go back into the community by funding grants that LOTA awards Old Town Lafayette homeowners to beautify and improve their properties. Tour proceeds also benefit local events such as Lafayette’s Home for the Holidays.
