Catrina Dolls Workshop

In this 60 minute workshop you will receive a short lecture on the tradition of La Catrina (“skeleton woman”), a cultural symbol of death common throughout Mexican art, especially around el Dia de los muertos, first represented by José Guadalupe Posada and later by Diego Rivera among others. You will also the opportunity to create and decorate your own Catrina doll to take home. Instructor: Angela Aponte 25 students per workshop per day. Sign up over the phone 303-661-1261 or in person at 201 N. Public Road. Most workshops for ages 2nd grade and up; younger sibling may attend with parent present.

Dia de los Muertos Workshops

Day of the Dead (Dia de los muertos) is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and other parts of the Americas, usually on November 1st and 2nd, in observance of and in celebration of the dead. The festivities include parades, family gatherings at cemeteries and creating beautiful ofrendas, or altars, to recognize, remember and revere the deceased. There have been many artistic traditions associated with the celebration, including sugar skulls, Catrina dolls and poetry.

Workshop Descriptions:

Catrina Dolls Workshop: (Tues, Oct 10 5:00-6:00; Sat, Oct 28, 4:00-5:00)

Talleres del Día de los Muertos

El Día de Muertos es una celebración tradicional por todo México y otros áreas de las Américas, principalmente los días 1 y 2 de noviembre, en observación y celebración de los difuntos.  Las festividades incluye desfiles, fiestas familares en los cemeterios y creando hermosas ofrendas para reconocer, recordar y honrar los difuntos. Habían sido varias tradiciones artísticas conectadas con el Día de los muertos incluyendo calaveras de azúcar, La Catrina y poesía.

Descripción de talleres:

25 estudiantes por cada taller cada día. Puede inscribirse llamando al 303-661-1261 o ir en persona a 201 N. Public Road.  La mayoría de los talleres son para niños/as de las edades de segundo grado (7-8 años) para arriba, hermanitos pequeños podrán asistir con la presencia de sus padres.

Taller de Munecas de Catrina: (Tues, Oct 10 5:00-6:00; Sat, Oct 28, 4:00-5:00)

En este taller de 60 minutos, recibirá una breve lección sobre la tradición de La Catrina, un símbolo de la muerte común en la arte mexicana, especialmente alrededor el Día de los Muertos, y primeramente por José Guadlupe Posada y mas tarde por Diego Rivera entre otros. Al final todos se llevan su propio muñeca de La Catrina. Instructor: Angela Aponte
