Opening Friday, April 6th 2018 In conjunction with LEAF (Lafayette Electronic Arts Festival), the City of Lafayette and The National Endowment for the Arts, the exhibition Machine Language explores the ongoing modulations in the relationship between machine and human; machines making art, machines as art, art of the machine and art in the machine. The Machine Language exhibition is a new addition to the 3-year old festival that explores electronic and new media through performances, workshops, films, talks and exhibitions. Volunteers will learn how to check ids and other required safety precautions. Other volunteers are needed for jobs that do not require training.

    Lafayette City Council created the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in 2016. The HRC is committed to evaluating Lafayette City government, programs and processes with an inclusive lens, with a goal of fostering equity, social justice and freedom from fear of persecution based on race, religious belief, country of origin, sexual or gender identity, physical ability or age.
    The group meets monthly in order to: Make recommendations to City Council on ways to improve inclusivity and diversity in the City of Lafayette; facilitate community conversations on issues and/or occurrences of division and conflict in the City of Lafayette, and to make recommendations for ways to resolve and eliminate these; research, study and make recommendations to City Council and staff regarding federal, state or local government actions that may have an effect on diversity and inclusiveness in the City of Lafayette.

  1. Drug Take Back & Document Shred Event

    April 28, 2018, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

    The Lafayette Police Department participates in the national prescription drug take back events each year, which focuses on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our medicine cabinets. A national take back day provides the public an opportunity to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. Items which cannot be accepted at national take back programs are needles, mercury thermometers, oxygen containers, chemotherapy or radioactive substances, pressurized canisters and illicit drugs. The shred event provides the public an opportunity to safely get rid of old documents and possibly avoid identity theft. Please limit your items to no more than 3 bags or boxes. Items which cannot be accepted are newspapers, phone books, magazines or catalogues.
