According to a study of 10 million geotagged Tweets, scores of cheerful 140 character postings on Twitter earned Lafayette the accolade of being the 9th happiest city in the country.

The study, titled The Geography of Happiness, was performed by the University of Vermont’s Department of Math and Statistics. The ranking formula was based on the frequency of positive, happy words while swearing brought a city’s score down.
