[ACTIVE] Call for Artists and Poets! Deadline Extended to July 16

Call for Artists and Poets! The Lafayette Cultural Resources Division has extended the deadline for the Call for Artists and Poets for Art on the Street: See & Respond! Poets and 2-D artists of all kinds are invited to See & Respond to the 2013 Lafayette Colorado Art on the Street by writing poems or creating 2-D works of art in any medium that are inspired by any of the 2013 sculpture collection. Entries are due by 10 pm Tuesday, July 16, 2013. There are cash prizes for this juried show.

This program is not limited to local artists; finalists will be accepted from a nationwide pool of artists. This unique program is made possible through a generous $10,000 grant from Colorado Creative Industries, and additional funding from the Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, Public Art Committee, and the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District.

The See & Respond Art Show and Art on the Street Meet the Artists Reception, featuring the Art on the Street Sculptures and the works they inspired, will be held in Lafayette Public Library August 2, 6:30 – 9 pm. Cash prizes will be awarded for poetry and 2-D work in multiple age categories: Adult (19 and older) $150; Teen (13 – 18) $100; Children (6 – 12) $50. Poetry and 2-D art will be judged by a team of professional poets and artists. The Art on the Street, Jean Mellblom People’s Choice Award of $1000 will be announced. Voting for the Jean Mellblom Award will be at various locations in Lafayette, including at Art Night Out on July 19.

Entries for See & Respond are due July 16, 2013; all artwork is due for installation on August 1. More details and the entry form are available at www.cityoflafayette.com/CFA.

Seventeen Art on the Street sculptures were installed along Public Road in March and April. Artists and Poets wishing to enter See & Respond may visit the sculptures in person or view them on the City of Lafayette website, www.cityoflafayette.com/aots. The website also provides interviews with the Art on the Street Artists, including: Robert Brubaker, Charlotte Zink, Diane Mason, James Vilona, Zachery Harris, Gene Michielli, John King, J. Lucas Loeffler, Reven Swanson, Anthony Guntren, Greg Wasil, Anne Shutan, Kimmerjae Johnson, Ivan Kosta, Tom Newport and Gerry Stecca. This program provides the community with a full access interactive art experience year round.
