DEFINITION: Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled manual labor in support of tasks in connection with the maintenance of City parks, properties, facilities and other sites under City obligation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are illustrative only - not intended to be all inclusive: Maintain a variety of outdoor grounds facilities, park sites, lawns and garden plots by power trimming and mowing; cleaning and removing trash and debris from outdoor recreation sites and preparing recreation areas, e.g., softball fields, for public use. Maintain public facilities for the City; cleaning, securing and monitoring equipment / facilities, making repairs to equipment / facilities; assist with minor plumbing, carpentry and basic repair, as necessary. Operate a variety of equipment to facilitate the maintenance of buildings and grounds such as light vehicles and lawn mowers. Load and unload chemical fertilizers, trash equipment, etc. necessary to complete assignments. Perform related work as required and assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED: Mowers, trimmers, tractors and any tool or equipment necessary to complete the tasks assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledges: - knowledge of horticulture, planting, cultivating, pruning, and general care for plants, trees, shrubs and flowers; application of pesticides, fertilizers, maintenance of grounds keeping equipment;
Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Skills: - Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools and light to medium equipment.
Abilities: - Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks; willingness to perform tasks outdoors in a variety of climate conditions; to perform physical tasks required of assignments; to understand and carry out oral and written assignments; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other employees and the public.
EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Training - High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience - No specific requirement or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of valid Colorado driver's license with a good driving record and a copy of a current driving record report from the Department of Motor Vehicles should be submitted with application. Must be at least 18 years of age.
