DEFINITION: Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled manual labor duties in support of tasks in connection with the maintenance of City open space properties and other sites under City obligation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are illustrative only and not intended to be all inclusive: Maintain a variety of open space sites and facilities by power mowing and brush cutting; removing trees and limbs with chainsaws; cleaning and removing trash and debris; maintaining trails, signs, and other facilities on open space properties. Construct open space facilities and improvements such as trails, signs, and fences. Cleaning and repairing equipment and facilities including painting, carpentry, and basic repair, as necessary. Operate a variety of equipment to facilitate the management of open space properties such as light vehicles and power equipment. Load and unload equipment, materials, brush, logs, limbs, etc. necessary to complete assignments. Perform related work as required and assigned. May perform work in support of Boulder County Youth Corps work crew.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of a designated supervisor.
INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION: Work is performed in accordance with instructions, standard procedures or guidelines. However, some independent judgment will be necessary at times.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT: Frequent exposure to noise levels that may cause distractions. Work will include the use of chemicals and fuels. Work is performed entirely outdoors in all types of weather and over a variety of terrain.
EQUIPMENT USED: Mowers, tractors, chain saws, brush cutters, line trimmers, chippers, and any tool or equipment necessary to complete the tasks assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: - knowledge of mowing, cutting, planting, watering, pruning, and general care for plants, trees, shrubs and flowers; maintenance of grounds keeping equipment;
basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Skills: - competent use of a variety of hand tools and light to medium equipment.
Abilities: - capability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks; willingness to perform tasks outdoors in a variety of climate conditions; to perform physical tasks required of assignments; to understand and carry out oral and written assignments; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other employees and the public.
EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Training - High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience - Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of valid Colorado driver's license with a good driving record and a copy of a current driving record report from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Must be at least 18 years of age.
