Frequently Asked Questions - Finance Dog Licenses
Q: Is a dog license required in the City of Lafayette?A: Yes, a license is required for each dog.
Top Q: How do I get a license?A: Bring your proof of current rabies vaccination and $5 to the Police Station, 451 N 111th. We are across the street west from the cemetary/ball fields.
Top Q: How long does a dog license last for?A: The license is renewed every April, regardless of when it was initially purchased.
Top Q: What are the penalties if I don't get a license?A: When your dog is picked up by the Police Code Enforcement Officers, you will receive a ticket for a "dog at large". This ticket is given whether you have a license or not.
What the license does for you is to allow the Code Enforcement Officer to contact you prior to taking the dog to the Boulder County Humane Society. This also prevents the assessment of additional fees that the Humane Society charges you to retreive your dog.
Top Q: What if I don't have a current rabies vaccination for my dog?A: You will need to take your dog to your veterinarian and get a vaccination. In the month of April the City offers a clinic where your dog can get a vaccination and a license at the same time. This service is provided by the Lafayette Police in conjunction with local veterinarians.
This does not imply that you can wait until the following April to get a license. This service is provided in April since this is when the dog licenses expire.
