Openings on Planning Commission & Historic Preservation Board

Are you interested in keeping Lafayette a sustainable, healthy and vibrant community?  Looking for a positive and meaningful way to become involved or give back to the community?  Why not volunteer your time on the Planning Commission or the Historic Preservation Board.  Both boards currently have openings.  Apply now!  Applications accepted up to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011.

Planning Commission meets on the fourth Tuesday and following Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  Members serve four-year terms.  The Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on land use issues such as rezoning, subdivisions, planned unit developments, and site and architectural plan reviews.  The Commission also makes decisions on special use reviews.

Historic Preservation Board meets on the first Monday of each month, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Members serve four-year terms. The Board reviews and refers nominations for historic landmark designation to the City Council and promotes historic preservation through a variety of programs.  Candidates should have a genuine interest in the history of Lafayette and professional or personal experience in one more of the following areas:  architecture, history, historic preservation, archeology, planning, anthropology, building trades, real estate or law; however lack of professional experience should NOT deter citizens from applying.

Additional Requirements:  Interested citizens for either of these two boards must fill out an application, be registered voters, must have resided in Lafayette for one (1) full year and submit a resume.  Application forms for either the Planning Commission and/or Historic Preservation Board are available here or at the Community Development Department at City Hall.

For more information, contact Karen Westover at the Community Development Department at 303-665-5588 ext. 3332.  Apply by Friday, March 18, 2011 by 3:00 p.m.
