The heART Walk has been rescheduled for Dec 10!

heART Walk 200w

Take 4,000 Steps for Health and Art Appreciation on December 10
The Lafayette Recreation Department to partner with CBS Channel 4’s Fit 4 Colorado Program to offer the free inaugural heART (HEalthy ART) Walk

On December 10 the Recreation Department is teaming up with CBS Channel 4’s “Fit 4 Colorado” and the Weigh and Win program to lead participants on an inaugural walk to launch the newly branded, self-guided walk through Old Town and the City's 21 pieces of public Art on the Street.  The special event will begin at 9:00am at the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center located at 111 W. Baseline Road.

The first 50 participants will receive a pedometer to encourage a continued walking regimen.  No registration is necessary.  Participants over the age of 18 are also encouraged to take advantage of the Recreation Center’s Weigh and Win kiosk to register to “get paid to achieve and maintain” a healthy weight.
Start at the Bob Burger Recreation Center

A number of the Art on the Street artists will be available on December 10 to answer questions and visit with the public.

About the heART Walk: The 2 mile route starts at the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center, meanders south along South Public Road to City Hall, and then heads back north to end at the Recreation Center.  The route is identified with intermittent mile markers to inform walkers of their progress.

Walking is good for your health! Walking is a low-impact exercise with numerous health benefits and can ease participants into a higher level of fitness and health. Walking is accessible to most everyone; it's safe, simple and doesn't require special equipment or practice. Included in the many health benefits is the potential to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, improve your mood, and manage weight.  If you add just 2,000 more steps a day to your regular activities, you may never gain another pound, claims research by Dr. James O. Hill of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. To lose weight, add in more steps.

Beginning December 4, self-guided heART Walk maps will be available online or at the Recreation Center to allow exercisers to access the route at their convenience
