Work to install new landscaping in Old Town Lafayette along Public Road is underway and is expected to be completed by May 17. A city-hired contractor began removing plant material and preparing landscaping beds for new material during the week of April 23. New plant material will be installed following the installation of the roughly 50 rock elements in various planter beds along the road.

New landscaping along Public Road is one of several projects expected to be completed in 2012 as part of the implementation of the newly adopted Downtown Vision. The Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority adopted the 2011 Downtown Vision Plan on September 20, 2011. The Vision Plan is a document that sets forth policies for the future of downtown and outlines a strategy to continue the area’s revitalization. It is advisory and serves as a guide for public decisions related to development within the downtown area.
