Lafayette Police

The Lafayette Police Department is responsible for protecting Lafayette's citizens, detecting crime, regulating traffic and solving neighborhood problems.

To insure that we function efficiently while maintaining the rights of the citizens we protect, Lafayette Police Officers are trained to follow a series of policies and procedures and work within the guidelines of local, state and federal laws.  All officers are held to a high Code of Ethics and Values, and have sworn to uphold the Law Enforcement Oath of HonorBecause of the nature of law enforcement, we also understand that citizens on occasion may object to the actions of the police, or feel that their conduct is inappropriate.  Therefore, we have established procedures for citizens to report their concerns.

Compliments/Complaints reporting:

To initiate a report, you may

1) Call the Lafayette Police Department and contact the on-duty supervisor.

2) Vist the Lafayette Police Department and contact the on-duty supervisor.

3) Email the Police Department, or

4) Mail us your report, Attn: Chief Rick Bashor.

Should you encounter any difficulties, please feel free to contact me, Chief Rick Bashor, directly at (303) 665-5571, ext. 4148.

All citizen complaints will be investigated. If the complaint is of conduct that would violate police procedures or laws, an investigation by the Professional Standards Unit will occur. You will be asked to provide a statement of your complaint with as much detail concerning the incident and why you believe the officer's conduct was inappropriate.

On-line survey:

If you have recently been contacted by one of our officers, we encourage you to take a minute to complete our on-line survey. It lets you "grade" us on how well your contact went with our Officers.
