Fire Department Volunteer Opportunities

Fire Fighter's Helmet
Traditional Helmet
Lafayette Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter Volunteers are recruited twice a year in June and November.   All volunteers are trained as State Certified Firefighter 1, in Haz-Mat Operations and as either a First Responder or an EMT.  Initial training time lasts about one year with a two-year commitment for members who received training at the City of Lafayette's expense. Members who are Lafayette residents must staff at the Fire Station a minimum of 10 hours per month and respond to 15% of the emergency incidents, or non-residents must staff at the station 40 hours per month. Firefighters who serve a minimum of 10 years receive a pension at age 50. Contact Gerry Morrell, Fire Chief by email or call 303 665-9661.
