The Northwest Rail Corridor is a proposed 41-mile commuter rail corridor from Denver Union Station to Longmont, passing through North Denver, Adams County, Westminster, Broomfield, Louisville, Lafayette and Boulder.

As part of the voter-approved FasTracks program, RTD initiated an environmental evaluation of the Northwest Rail Commuter Corridor in July, 2007. The environmential evaluation is ongoing and will address several key aspects of the commuter rail project including impacts such as noise and traffic congestion on those communities in which the new service will operate. With noise and traffic congestion being the number one concern of Lafayette residents, the RTD Board Member that represents western Lafayette, John Tayer, pushed for and successfully passed the Responsible Rail Amendment.
