Spring Clean up
2012 SPRING CLEAN UP
May 7 through May 18, 2012
Each May the Public Works Department offers a free annual Spring Clean-Up service to our residents which includes picking up bundled tree limbs, bagged leaves and landscape materials. In an effort to make our Spring Clean-up Program truly green, the City of Lafayette will not accept yard waste in plastic or biodegradable bags this year.
This year we will be offering two options for Spring Clean up:
Option 1:
-Have your landscape waste ready in compostable or paper yard bags only for pick up. Have tree limbs cut 8' or shorter and bundled not weighing over 100 pounds.
Option 2: (Avalon site will ONLY accept yard waste during Spring Clean up dates from 7:00am to 3:30pm.)
-Bring your landscape waste to the Service Center 1700 Avalon Ave and dispose of it in the bins available. Tree limbs to be taken to back of building.
-If plastic bags will be used to transport your material, please empty them, then take them back home with you.
Biodegradable VS Compostable
Please be aware that there are two types of earth friendly bags: Biodegradable and Compostable. For the purpose of Spring Clean-up, only COMPOSTABLE bags will be accepted. Visually, compostable bags are clear or a translucent pink. Some paper Kraft bags also qualify as compostable.
The following Lafayette retailers have partnered with us to make this program successful and will have compostable bags available for purchase:
• King Soopers • Vitamin Cottage • JAX • Walmart
2 free 50 gallon (35” X 50”) compostable bags per household can be picked up at City Hall through May 4th. Citizens can also purchase additional compostable bags at City Hall for $ 0.75 per bag between the hours of 8am-5pm. Please see pick up schedule for your neighborhood date.
