Why You Should Consider A Personal Trainer

Maybe you have been working out on your own for a while and have yet to see the desired tone and the weight loss.  Or, maybe you want to get in shape and have no idea where to start.  A personal trainer might be just what you need to kick-start your fitness goals or break out of an exercise plateau. Good personal trainers are typically certified through ACE, ACSM, AFAA, ISSA, or NSCA and are thus qualified to provide safe and beneficial exercise programs.  Also, they can apply their knowledge to your fitness situation and goals.  Exercising under a personal trainer’s guidance can reduce your risk of injuries and various health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, and hypertension.

Personal trainers also provide you with accountability, encouragement, and motivation.  But for a session with a personal trainer, you might be tempted to skip your trip to the gym.  One skip can then so easily turn into several weeks without a workout.  A good personal trainer gives you your money’s worth every time you meet.  They appreciate the value of your time and want you to meet your health and fitness goals.  You will be challenged every workout session, and you will be motivated by the results you achieve.

How do you find a personal trainer that is right for you?  Ask your friends and family if they can recommend a personal trainer in your area.  You can also go online to seek information.  The Bob L. Burger recreation center does have personal trainers as independent contractors. Check out the “Personal Trainers” tab under “Fitness Programs” on the City of Lafayette Recreation webpage.  There you can find names, contact info, certifications and background, training philosophies, and specialties.

Best wishes on your health and fitness goals.
