Staying Healthy While Traveling

Summer will be here before we know it.  And with summer’s arrival typically comes traveling.  Here are a few suggestions for staying healthy and fit while on the road:

  1. Do your research before leaving.  If you don’t have a plan for staying healthy, you will probably cave at the first fast food place you see.  Don’t try to wing it.   When you are researching hotels online, check out the restaurants in the area and see which ones offer healthy menu options.  Also, see if your hotel has a pool or a small fitness room and plan to take advantage of it for 30 – 60 minutes.

  2. Have healthy food options with you at all times (fruit, cheese, nuts).  That way, if you have to skip breakfast or you get hungry unexpectedly, you can make a healthy choice and aren’t forced to go to a vending machine or a fast food restaurant.

  3. Drink plenty of water and avoid higher-calories beverages.  Juices, most coffee drinks, and alcohol are high in calories and don’t fill you up for very long.

  4. Bring a pair of light dumbbells or a few resistance bands and do a couple of exercises while watching TV.  Also, try to walk as much as you can.

Have a safe and healthy summer!
