Building Codes
The City of Lafayette has adopted the following model codes: 
  • International Building Code 2009 
  • International Energy Conservation Code 2009
  • International Fuel Gas Code 2009
  • International Mechanical Code 2009
  • International Plumbing Code 2009
  • International Residential Code 2009 
  • National Electrical Code 2011
 
Roofing Code Information   
  • 2009 International Residential Code and International Building Code (no amendments) 
  • Drip edge / rake metal required 
  • Ice and water shield strongly recommended, not required
  • No overlays - must be a complete tear off 
  • Shingles must comply with ASTM D7158 (Class G or H) or shingles must comply with D3161 Class F

Design Information 
  • Frost depth: 36 inch frost depth
  • Snow load: 30 pounds / square foot roof and ground 
  • Wind speed: 105 mph at 3 second gust 

Plan Sizes   
  • Accessory dwelling unit plans: no larger than 24 inches by 36 inches 
  • Commercial tenant finish plans: no larger than 24 inches by 36 inches 
  • New single-family and multi-family plans: no larger than 24 inches by 36 inches 
  • New commercial building plans: no larger than 24 inches by 36 inches 
  • Residential remodel plans: no larger than 11 inches by 17 inches
