Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020
Based on data collected during the 2007 report, there is a known baseline of greenhouse gas emissions. Over 40% of greenhouse gas emissions in Lafayette are the result of electricity use, therefore, electricity reduction and conservation are key objectives for the city. The city has erected various solar installations on city facilities since 2007, and most recently won a bid from Xcel for two solar gardens in order to provide electricity for low income families within the city limits.

Promote Energy Conservation
The committee strongly advocates for conservation amongst residents, business, and city facilities/employees. Education initiatives are undertaken regularly at city events and through other outreach. Additionally, the Green Business Program promotes local businesses who make conservation a priority. Learn more about the Green Business Program
