Historic Preservation Board Historic Building Improvement Grant

The Lafayette Historic Preservation Board (HPB) is offering a competitive grant of up to $1,000 for a historic building improvement project that meets the following criteria:

Age of Building (House, Outbuilding, Barn, etc.): 
  • 50 years old or older

Location:
 
  • Within the City of Lafayette

Eligible Project Characteristics:
 
  • Helps extend the life of the building 
  • Keeps historic materials (>50 years old) to the extent possible; if not possible, uses identical or similar ones 
  • Removes non-historic features or materials to expose historic ones 
  • Will be completed within 12 months of receiving notice of grant award

Examples:
 
  • Foundation repair, window or door repair and/or weather sealing, painting, chimney repair, roof replacement, reconstruction of historical architectural details
More Information
  • The HPB will reimburse you for your eligible project costs, up to $1,000, within two weeks of your submission of project receipts (for materials and/or labor) 
  • The HPB will publicize this grant and your project in the local media 
  • The owner of the building must approve the application but the owner, tenant, or owner’s representative may submit it

Criteria for Award (maximum 30 points total):
 
  •  Impact of project on life or appearance of property: maximum 10 points 
  •   Use of historic materials: maximum 10 points 
  •   Use of a Lafayette-based business: maximum 10 points

Application Review Process:

The HPB City liaison will screen applications to verify project eligibility. If any additional information is required, the liaison will contact the applicant directly. The HPB will then evaluate the applications in its next monthly public meeting, during which applicants may make statements. The HPB will then determine which project will be funded.
