The library is a place that belongs to everyone, of every age. There are rules about how you act in the library in order to help make it a pleasant place for everyone to visit.
When you enter the Lafayette Public Library, you agree to adhere to the following rules:
• Be considerate of other people.
• Speak in a quiet voice.
• Use the library facility, materials, & equipment appropriately.
• Act in a safe way.
Here are some suggestions that may help you:
If you need to talk to someone across the room, go to that person before speaking.
Don’t yell. If you are with friends and want to talk, keep your voices low.
Be aware of other people around you.
Use appropriate language.
Do not climb on shelves, play on the stairs or elevators, or with the automatic doors.
Take special care of all library materials.
Use headphones with audio or visual materials.
Observe guidelines for number of people allowed in study rooms.
Keep food and drink away from the computers. Place litter in the baskets provided.
Some activities are always OUTSIDE activities: climbing, running, wrestling, throwing, whistling, jumping, skating. Do NOT do these things inside the library.
For the safety of your children age 7 or under, caregivers or parents should always keep them within sight. Children 8 years of age or older are left alone at the discretion of the adult, who accepts all responsibility for the decision.
Please respect the privacy of our library users and help us to preserve an environment where people can read and do their research without interruption. Please conduct opinion surveys, fund–raising projects, and other solicitations elsewhere.
Library Staff members will ask you to follow these guidelines. Staff members have the authority to ask you to leave the building for the rest of the day. When you return, follow the rules of the library. If there are on-going problems you may be asked to not use the Library for a longer period of time.
