Water in Public Health
We live in a world where 1.1 billion people must drink from unsafe water sources. As a result, approximately 6,000 people die every day from preventable waterborne disease.
Because of our sophisticated water treatment and distribution systems, we can drink from virtually any public tap with a high assurance of safety. These systems protect us from naturally occurring and manmade contaminants that can have immediate or long-term health effects.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Colorado set high standards for water quality. The facilities and technologies required to achieve these high standards are paid for by our water bills.
