Reduce, Reuse, then Recycle

Before you buy it, remember: the easiest and cheapest way to reduce waste is by cutting it off at its source. Shop for reusable, durable goods. Things to consider when shopping:

• Can it be reused and for how long?
• Can it be refilled or repaired?
• How toxic is it?
• How much packaging does it have?
• At the end of its life, can it be recycled?

  Do you need it?

  Western Disposal Recycling Trash and Recycle Center is a one-stop drop-off site for recyclables, electronics, scrap metal, yard waste, wood waste, compostables and household hazardous waste (see below). It's located at 5880 Butte Mill Road, winter hours 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The City of Lafayette participates in the household hazardous waste program. There is a nominal drop-off charge based on weight for all other items. The charge for compostables is $0.36/20 lbs.
