Vegetated Buffers

Vegetated Buffer
Vegetated Buffer Zone

Buffers of native vegetation surround ponds, lakes, and run parallel to streams. These buffers are effective in filtering out non-point pollution before it reaches the main water body.

Vegetated buffers also prevent erosion, stabilize stream banks, trap the sediment from runoff, and protect against flooding. To provide the greatest benefits, natural vegetation should not be mowed.
