Attention City of Lafayette residents, graduates of Lafayette schools, and employees of Lafayette businesses:

You may qualify for the Preference Benefit.

One of Lafayette's goal is to increase homeownership of Lafayette residents and encourage employees of Lafayette businesses to live in Lafayette.

The purpose of the Preference Benefit is to give Lafayette residents and employees' first priority in purchasing a Community Housing Unit with the first 30 days a unit is available over non-residents and those who do not work in Lafayette.

Do you qualify?

At least one member of your household must meet at least one of the following criteria's:

• Be a full-time employee (see definition below) working in Lafayette, or for a business with its principle office located in Lafayette.
• Has been a resident of Lafayette for one year prior to applying to purchase a Community Housing Unit.
• Be a retired person who has been a full-time resident in Lafayette for a minimum of one year.
• Be a disable person who has been a full-time employee or resident in Lafayette for a minimum of one year.
• Be a graduate of a high school located within the city limits of Lafayette.

To be considered for the Purchase Preference program, please complete the Preference Benefit Application.  Once the application has been deemed complete it will be reviewed for determination of qualification for the Preference Benefit.

Employee Definition:  An employee who is employed for a minimum of 1,000 hours worked per calendar year, and who averages at lease 25 hours of work per week, during ten (10) months of each year, or 22 hours of work per week, during eleven (11) months of each year and who intends to reside in the Community Housing Unit a minimum of nine (9) months out of each year.
