Descriptions of Volunteer Opportunities at the Library

Book Discussion Leader
Lead a group of individuals who have an interest in reading and discussing fiction or non-fiction books. Book discussion groups meet once a month throughout the year. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Book Processing
Be the first to see all the new books before they go out on the shelves! Volunteers are needed to prepare new books for checkout by stamping, taping, and covering them. The Book Mending Bee is a group that meets twice a month to repair old books to get them back on the shelves for a longer life. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Book Sale Volunteers
The Friends of the Library group always needs volunteers to help with the Library’s main fundraiser – the perpetual book sale. Donated books are sold in the Library lobby and downstairs elevator area. Volunteers are needed to sort, shelve and recycle donated books. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Homebound Delivery
Volunteers deliver Library materials to residents who are unable to visit the Library due to age, health or disability issues. This program also has a new service called “Books and Barks,” which includes pet therapy and book delivery. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Homework Center Tutors
Tutors work in the Library’s successful Homework Center where students in grades 3 through 8 can receive free, one-on-one tutoring help with homework. The Center is open Monday through Thursdays from 2:30 – 7 pm. High school and college students, as well as adult professionals are welcome to apply. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

School Visit Tour Guides
Elementary school students visit the Library throughout the year to become acquainted with all it has to offer. You can lead the way by volunteering as a tour guide. Tour guides volunteer a small amount – an hour or two a month – but have a big impact by introducing children to a world of books. Bilingual guides (Spanish speaking) are also needed. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Shelf Reading Circle
We invite you to gather with other volunteers to keep books organized on shelves, enjoy refreshments and conversation, and occasionally clean and mend children’s books. Volunteers meet on Tuesdays from 1 - 3 pm. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Special Projects and Special Events Assistants
The Library will often host one time events or programs such as a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party or travel lecture. We need volunteers to assist with these efforts by greeting the public, helping with an activity, serving refreshments, and setting up/cleaning up. These opportunities are ideal for someone who can only volunteer on a limited basis, for a few hours a year. We also have special projects such as a user survey or magazine inventory that occur throughout the year and require extra volunteer help. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Staff Aides
Are you looking for a volunteer position that will give you an opportunity to come in on a regular basis, assist with the necessary and important work of keeping a Library running smoothly, and help you learn new skills? Volunteer staff aides work in a variety of areas in the Library – magazines, new books, reference, children’s, special projects, administrative assistance, publicity and much more. Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Summer Reading Program
Volunteers are needed during the summer to help our children’s librarians with the annual summer reading program. Data entry, program help, various behind the scenes work, and publicity all require the energy of a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Reading Buddies is a wonderful chance for younger volunteers to help a child continue reading and improving reading skills during the summer months.Contact Susan Nagle, Volunteer Coordinator at 303 665-5200 x3852 or email

Our volunteer application is available online or for more general questions contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Susan Nagle, by telephone at 303-665-5200 Ext. 3852 or by email.
