Artists Statement: Boulder artist Bill Vielehr submitted this sculpture to the Art on the Street program weeks before his sudden passing. With his family's permission, his work remained in the selection process and was ultimately selected by the committee. It is with honor, that Lafayette Public Art Committee displays this sculpture for the 2015 Art on the Street. In Bill's words:
My work is not conceived to be attractive and visually pleasing, but many times achieves this non-purpose through process — process that pays homage to all visual art created through process. From Christo’s installations to printmakers, my work is handmade and, in the sense of artists like Tom Sachs, non-propagandistic. The reason it is considered reconstructed visual art by me is that it exists for itself because of itself.
Following the installation of the sculptures, area poets and visual artists will be invited to participate in a juried art show, “See and Respond!” where artists create a piece inspired by one of the sculptures. There will be cash prizes awarded in multiple categories. Visit the See & Respond page for more information
