I specialize in functional strength training. The clients I have worked with range in age from high school athletes learning Olympic lifting through 90+ year old adults improving daily function, movement and range of motion.
Trained and competed in 5 different bodybuilding shows. Still competing in shot put and discus in summer track meets.
I will teach you the basics of building and modifying a fitness program to achieve maximum results, and help you develop a lifestyle that encourages health. Your workout program is going to be both challenging and achievable. I will give you the tools to lose fat, gain muscle tone, improve your health, and enhance your general well-being. I apply a multi-dimensional approach to fitness, integrating mind and body. (I have a degree in Physical Therapy, I am a Group Fitness Instructor and a Yoga Teacher besides being a Personal Trainer) I always focus on strengthening the back and the abdominal area, as it is the core that is the foundation of a healthy body. I am also an Ayurveda Therapist, I use that knowledge to personalize your training sessions even more, according to your body constitution.
My specialty is training people with various health problems. I have helped clients with heart disease, hypertension, obesity, osteoporosis, arthritis, chronic lower back pain and many other conditions.
I work within the "joint-by-joint" approach where range of motion is determined and corrective movements that are unique to the client are used, all while teaching how these movements are functional and "purposeful." We will work on core tenants of training, like pushing and pulling opposing muscle groups, and why this is important for balance.
A good trainer is able to change plans (sometimes immediately) to accommodate the soon-to-be-friend that has entrusted you with his or her health and well being. I work closely with Doctor's to help my clients stay away form the Doctor! This is my passion; you can trust in my training knowing that your new friend doesn't care what you know, but knows that YOU CARE.
Every session I focus on "opening up the hips" since all movement starts there. For problems with balance, I can rewire the brain to increase balance. Want to add tone and leanness to your muscles? We will work with weight, rep count and diet. Want to learn how to transfer weight back and forth between muscle groups? We will learn where it starts and how it moves through our wonderful bodies. I work with all age groups, and receive and give sound advice to facilitate correctional movements that are appropriate and safe.
Most of my clients are older adults. I have also taught Youth Weight Training. I recently went through knee replacement surgery and have empathy for and knowledge of pre- and post-surgery preparation and recovery. Additionally I help those de-conditioned or new to weight training prepare their ligaments and tendons for the strength training work to come.
My belief as an endurance athlete, coach and personal trainer is to integrate “Functional Strength Training” into my athlete’s workouts. Most endurance athletes are already stressing their bodies and overuse injuries are all too common. I focus on stability, mobility, balance and agility as a base for strength training. I will give you a solid foundation, flexibility and range of motion; all important factors for gaining efficiency, speed and quickness in all sports and activities. I also love to take clients outdoors when the weather permits.
I am a 2 x 70.3 World Championship Qualifier, 3 x Ironman Finisher (AWA status in 2013 and podium finisher in 2016), completed 25 marathons and 100+ triathlons of all distances.
I develop my program based on my client’s needs. I want to help people with their knowledge of and confidence in the gym. I believe in focusing on how your body receives each movement so that you are in tune with your muscles, and can feel your body responding to the exercise. I like to mix in a lot of free-weight, and body-weight exercises.
I’ve competed in two body building shows, hiking and basketball enthusiast and sprinter.
You won’t get stronger doing the same things you’ve been doing for years. We’ll work together to find ways to get better results from the exercise you enjoy doing and find some new things to try that will improve your strength and fitness in everything.

I’ve been where you are. I’ve had a decades-long fight to lose weight, recover from injury, correct muscle imbalances, get stronger and faster, and prepare for getting older; I’ve changed sports, tried new things and revisited old ideas. I’ve cycled and swum with professional athletes, and I’ve taught beginners how to jog. Whatever you’re struggling with, I’ve battled that same obstacle and I’ll help you get past it too. I have a very wide base of knowledge and tons of experiences to draw upon, so there are some very creative and non-intuitive ways to help you get past the sticking points and on your way. Sometimes, becoming a faster runner doesn’t require extra running.
