South Boulder Road / 120th Street Multimodal Improvement Project

South Boulder Road / 120th Street Multimodal Improvement Project

The City of Lafayette is working with the Boulder County Transportation Department and the Colorado Department of Transportation on the South Boulder Road / 120th Street Multimodal Improvement project.

The project extends along South Boulder Road from Malory Street to 120th Street and on 120th Street from Eastwind Drive to Coal Creek. It includes a new multi-use path (10-foot wide sidewalk) along Merlin Drive to Alicia Sanchez Elementary and a path along City Center Circle from South Boulder Road to the Lafayette park-n-Ride.
Project Work Includes:
o Widening of South Boulder Road from Malory Street to 120th Street - two thru-lanes (one each direction); a center turn lane; bike lanes. A new 10-foot wide concrete multiuse path along the south side from Merlin Drive to 120th Street and a new 6-foot sidewalk along the north side of South Boulder Road.

o New multiuse path along Merlin Drive from South Boulder Road up to the Alicia Sanchez Elementary School and along Front Range Drive from South Boulder Road to the RTD Park-n-Ride.

o New signalized intersection at South Boulder Road and 120th Street - turn lanes on the north, south and west legs and a dual left-turn lane for traffic traveling eastbound on South Boulder Road and turning left onto 120th Street.

o Widening of 120th Street to accommodate the new intersection lanes. Widening will extend north to a new trail crossing of 120th Street at the railroad right of way. The existing ditch along the west side of the road will be piped and a new storm sewer installed down to Coal Creek.

o Reconstruction of the Lamont Does Parking Lot. Parking area will be expanded on the west end and shortened on the east end to accommodate additional green space. All traffic will enter on the west and exit on the east. Exit will be moved to line up with Malory Street.

o Undergrounding of the Xcel service lines along South Boulder Road will happen in conjunction with this project.
Funding for the project comes from a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation, Boulder County’s Countywide Transportation Sales Tax, and City road funds. Construction is anticipated in Summer 2019.
