After a thorough recruitment, interview, and public input process, Mayor Christine Berg and City Council are pleased to announce the selection of Fritz Sprague as the new Lafayette City Administrator. Sprague will replace Gary Klaphake who earlier this year announced his retirement after 20 years in the position.
Sprague comes to Lafayette from the Town of Castle Rock where he had served as Deputy Town Manager since 2006. He also held the role of Assistant Town Manager from 1999 to 2006. Prior to Castle Rock, Sprague was the Assistant to the City Manager in Commerce City from 1993 to 1998.
"We were fortunate to have many qualified candidates apply for the Administrator position," said Lafayette Mayor Christine Berg. "We believe Fritz understands our vision and embodies the values and aspirations of the Lafayette community. We're confident in his ability to bring seasoned experience along with a fresh perspective, and look forward to his assistance to continue moving Lafayette in a positive direction."
"I'm looking forward to serving such a wonderful community and calling Lafayette home,” said Fritz Sprague. "The Mayor, Councilors and staff have been very welcoming during the selection process and I appreciate being afforded this once in a lifetime opportunity. I feel very fortunate to be joining an organization that's forward thinking, has a great staff, and is in excellent financial condition. I'd like to thank the Mayor and Council and I look forward to serving Lafayette as their next City Administrator."
The position of City Administrator plans, manages, oversees and directs all City operations and services to meet City Council goals and objectives. The City Administrator works in partnership with department and division heads, employees, external entities, and the public to deliver effective and innovative services to Lafayette residents.
Mr. Sprague will begin his tenure as the new Lafayette City Administrator in February.
