Submit an application for the Comprehensive Plan Community Advisory Committee

Public Road Strategic Corridor Plan working group

The City of Lafayette is seeking the community’s involvement to assist with the development of a new Comprehensive Plan. One of the ways residents are able to contribute is by serving on the Comprehensive Plan Community Advisory Committee (CAC).

Applications for the CAC are currently available online, and are due by February 25, 2019, at 5:00pm.

The members of CAC will play an important role in supporting the completion of the new Comprehensive Plan for the City of Lafayette. These include:

  • Serving as a source of information and input for the Comprehensive Plan project team (which includes City staff and the consultant team leading the effort), across a variety of topics related to the Comprehensive Plan.
  • Serving in an advisory role to the project team as the Comprehensive Plan progresses throughout the process.
  • Assisting with outreach to the community, including spreading the word concerning the latest news and events from the Comprehensive Plan process, to various groups and constituencies in Lafayette.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

Comprehensive Plans are the backbone of a community’s planning efforts. These plans outline challenges facing the community, identify solutions, and provide guidance to appointed and elected officials on planning-related decisions. The best Comprehensive Plans are those that have the support of the broader community. They are a living document that grows and changes with the community.

Lafayette’s current Comprehensive Plan was originally developed in 1987, updated in 1997, and went through a major review and update in 2003. In December 2018, Lafayette City Council hired RICK Community Planning to formulate a new Comprehensive Plan for the City.

Expectations of CAC members

Members of the Community Advisory Committee will be responsible for attending a series of 5 to 6 meetings, of no longer than two hours in length, during the course of the Comprehensive Plan project (which is expected to conclude by June 30, 2020). Meetings will be held during weeknight evenings (on evenings when meetings of the City Council, Planning Commission or other Boards and Commissions are NOT scheduled). While the exact start times for the meetings have not yet been set, meetings will occur between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm at City Hall.
