[ARCHIVED] Old Town water main break

(12/5/19 update) Water service was restored to Old Town homes this morning around 2:00am.  Crews have made initial repairs and are establishing a schedule for additional repair work. Public Works is aware of the water currently bubbling on Emma.  Residents affected by ongoing repairs will be notified of any planned outages.

(12/4/19 6:00pm update) Crews are continuing to attempt to isolate and repair multiple breaks in the water delivery system in Old Town this evening. They will continue working through the night, but at this time are not expecting service restoration tonight. Thank you for your patience. We will continue to provide updates here.

City of Lafayette Public Works was onsite yesterday on Kimbark near Bermont repairing a water service line.  During repairs, several additional valves began leaking.  Crews worked late last night into the early morning, but were unable to shut down the system to repair the valves.  During this time, our team knocked on doors to notify residents of the outage.

Crews have mobilized again today to isolate the areas for repair, which requires shutting water off to about 100 homes in the area between Roosevelt and Bermont, and Chester to Kimbark.  The Public Works Department has begun knocking on doors again and handing out door hangers with information.  The water shut down is planned to run through approximately 9:00pm tonight.  Lane and street closures will be activated at the repair sites with traffic control and detours in place.
