Dec 17, Naming Ceremony for Rose Lueras Pool

Pool Dedication with City Council

December 17; 5:30 p.m. Join Lafayette City Council for the dedication and naming of the Rose Lueras Pool at the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center. City of Lafayette acknowledges that injustices of the past, which, in some instances, the City was a participant, continue to be deeply painful and have significant impact on the City’s Latinx community. In 1934, Rose Lavato Lueras, with her daughter Rosabelle Lueras Vargas at her side, fought bravely and persistently for the rights of Spanish Americans, Mexican Americans, and Mestizos to swim in the Lafayette public swimming pool. She was unsuccessful in realizing her dreams of equality and inclusion. In recognition of Rose Lueras’ struggle, and in atonement for civil rights denied in the past, at a ceremony on December 17, the Lafayette City Council will dedicate The Rose Lueras Pool. Bob L. Burger Recreation Center, 111 W Baseline Rd

Two Bears by Jamee Lucas Loeffler

Art on the Street

The 2019 Art on the Street sculptures line Public Road in Old Town Lafayette. Take a stroll or view the website to enjoy the sculptures.
Two Bears
: Jamee Lucas Loeffler
From: Lafayette, CO
Location: E. Cannon St. & S. Public Rd.
NE corner
Medium: bronze, cement, steel, and pigment
Artist Statement: Artist Jamee Lucas Loeffler
This sculpture is long overdue. I created it when I was 18 years old, and it sat in my basement for roughly 20 years until I decided to bring to life what I'd envisioned so many years before. The name Two Bears has different meanings but the primary one is the fact that it's two sculptures in one; it’s one sculpture on top of the other.
