Orange Zone Water Line Construction Project

Arapahoe & 95th Street Orange Zone Water Line Construction Project to run
March through July 2018

Construction of the Orange Zone water line along Arapahoe Road will begin the week of March 12 and continue for approximately four months. All Arapahoe traffic lanes will remain open during construction, but lane widths will be reduced.  Please drive with caution and expect delays. Please refer to the map below for locations.

Construction on Section A will begin on or around March 12 and last approximately 10 weeks. Mobilization on Section C will begin on May 1 and last through mid-June.  Work on Section B will occur on May 14 and 15. All timelines are estimates and weather dependent.

This project has been designed to minimize as much disruption as possible.  We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the overall water service to your homes.

Orange Zone Background: In the early 2000’s a water systems consultant identified the need for an additional water service line to the northern residential portions of Lafayette to avoid imminent water pressure problems and safety concerns regarding fire suppression.  Approximately five years ago, the City began the process to obtain necessary easements and permits to construct this new line.  All required permissions have been finalized and construction began in 2017.

Previous Updates (from 2017)

May 10, 2018

Residents living in the area north of Arapahoe Road and 95th Street may experience water pressure fluctuations between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm on Monday, May 14, 2018. Water service will be on during this time, but customers may notice lower pressure.  Specific neighborhoods affected are: Cross Creek, Blue Heron, Spring Creek, and Heron Lake Meadows.

July 21, 2017:

The project has moved to the east.  Today access to Applewood Dr (and Sunny Way) will be from the west.  We will be connecting into the line in the Indian Peaks neighborhood spanning Baseline Road North to South.

July 6, 2017:

Baseline Road closure July 15-31, 2017 between Applewood and Elgin

Baseline Road at the BNSF railroad tracks between Applewood Drive and Elgin Drive will be closed from July 15 through July 31, 2017.  No vehicle, pedestrian, or bicycle traffic will be allowed during this time.  Applewood Drive will be accessible from the east, and Elgin Drive will be accessible from the west for residents living on those streets.

This closure will allow the construction of a new water transmission line, resulting in improved pressure, water flows, and redundancy within the City’s water distribution system.  Crews will be working onsite from 6:00am until dusk, seven days a week.

Traffic will be detoured to Arapahoe Road and/or South Boulder Road at 75th or 95th Streets, throughout the duration of this construction project.  Please refer to the detour map below.  Questions may be directed to Public Works at 303-661-1277 or saraho@cityoflafayette.com
